THE ITALIANS ARE COMING TO VILLAGES NEAR YOU!

           As guests of Stocksmoor & Villages Twinning Association

This is a private organisation but we are recognised by Kirklees Metropolitan Council.

For those of you who like travel and getting to know places and people more deeply let me tell you about the Twinning Association for our area of Stocksmoor and surrounding villages.

We are enjoying our twentieth year of continuous travel between here and Olgiate Molgora in northern Italy and we alternate between Italy and England on a yearly basis.

Many great friendships have been formed over the years with some people participating every year but also a good dose of “new blood” into the mix. Our Italian friends are extremely hospitable and we are truly spoiled when we visit Italy; of course we do try to be as hospitable as they are! We certainly spend a lot of time relaxing with plenty of laughter as well. It is amazing how we share a similar sense of humour.

Both we ourselves and our Italian friends feel we have benefited enormously from the exchange and discovering each other’s country, culture and way of life; not to mention trying out the most delicious food and drink.

It is not necessary to be able to speak perfect Italian to take part! We have a range of abilities, as do the Italians with their English! People who have only a little Italian will be hosted by Italians who can speak some English and vice versa.

The Twinning group also arrange some social/money-raising events throughout the year to raise funds for receiving our guests in England. It is also good to get together and enjoy ourselves as a group as well – as we are friends too. The years we visit Italy it only costs us our air fare and a bit of pocket money and it is a good way of avoiding the expense of exchange rates!
